We work to enable a better understanding of how technological change occurs in the sector, to train researchers to empirically take stock of current capacities and markets, to identify gaps, to measure progress of implemented laws and policy frameworks, and to enact new incentives.

It is one of the six EAC Regional Centres of Excellence for Skills and Tertiary Education in the Higher Medical and Health Sciences Education, Health Services and Research.
The AVMI is a group of interested Africans launched the Africa Vaccine Manufacturers Initiative. The AVMI aims to create, through partnerships, an environment on the African continent, which is conducive to the emergence, development and sustainability of vaccine and biological manufacturers that meet global quality standards. The National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) is a Nigerian institution charged with developing drugs, biological products, and pharmaceutical raw materials, conducting quality-assurance tests, research for locally manufactured medicines and constituting guidelines for their production. Founded in 1987, it was a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2001, it was moved to Federal Ministry of Health.
